How to choose an industrial marketing agency: 10 questions to ask before hiring

To choose an industrial marketing agency, check whether it has worked with manufacturers, whether it measures results in opportunities and orders, and whether it understands your sales process. Agencies that come from retail tend to focus on posts and reach, and that rarely generates orders in technical B2B sales. The 10 questions below help you tell one from the other before you sign a contract.

Quick summary

  • Ask for real cases in the industrial sector, ideally with numbers.
  • Ask how the agency measures results. The right answer talks about opportunities, proposals and orders.
  • Check whether the proposal includes technical content, targeted media and sales follow-up, not just social media.

Why is choosing an agency for manufacturing different?

In manufacturing, a group buys: engineering, purchasing, quality and leadership. The cycle takes weeks or months and each order is worth a lot. A generalist agency tends to apply consumer tactics, such as promotions and daily posts, that do not answer this buyer's technical questions.

It shows in the numbers. According to the RD Station 2026 Marketing and Sales Panorama (a Brazilian survey, in Portuguese), 70% of industrial companies in Brazil missed their marketing goals in 2025, and only 14% say their marketing and sales are well integrated.

The 10 questions to ask the agency

1. Which manufacturers have you worked with?

Ask for cases with sector, challenge and result. Experience with metalworking, chemical or machinery companies shows the agency can translate technical specifications into content.

2. How do you measure results?

The answer should mention qualified opportunities, proposals sent and orders closed. If the agency only shows reach, likes and followers, it is measuring what is easy, not what matters.

3. What is your working method?

A good agency shows the stages: diagnosis, positioning, demand generation, content and follow-up. Be wary of anyone who starts the proposal with the number of posts per month.

4. Will you understand my technical product?

Ask how the agency learns about the product: interviews with engineering, plant visits, reading data sheets. Shallow content drives technical buyers away.

5. Which channels make sense for my market?

There is no channel that is right for everyone. Google Ads serves people already searching for the solution. LinkedIn Ads reaches decision makers by job title and industry. Meta Ads helps with brand recall and remarketing. The agency should explain why it chose each channel for your case.

6. How do you help sales convert?

A lead without follow-up becomes a lost lead. Ask how the contact reaches the salesperson, how fast, and how the outcome goes back to marketing. The same RD Station survey shows that 59% of Brazilian industrial companies have no defined agreement between marketing and sales.

7. Is my website ready for this traffic?

A serious agency evaluates the website before investing in media. Clear product pages, data sheets in text form and a simple quote form make a difference in conversion.

8. Do you work to make the company appear in AI assistants?

B2B buyers already use ChatGPT and Gemini to build their supplier shortlist. Ask whether the agency optimizes content to be cited by these tools, in addition to Google.

9. How much does it cost and what is included?

Ask for the monthly fee, the estimated media budget and any separate projects (website, video, catalog). Compare the total cost over 12 months, not just the monthly payment. At Agência Box, the price is defined after the diagnosis, according to the scope of the project, and we do not charge a percentage of the media budget.

10. How often will we review results?

Agree on a monthly meeting with funnel numbers and clear decisions for the following month. A report sent by email without a conversation usually ends up forgotten.

Red flags in a proposal

  • A promise of guaranteed results within a few weeks.
  • A scope with posts and artwork, but no technical content or targeted media.
  • No questions about average deal size, sales cycle or sales team.
  • A long contract without goals or reviews.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an industrial marketing agency and a regular agency?

An industrial agency works with technical B2B sales, long cycles and several decision makers. It measures success in opportunities and orders, not in likes.

Does the agency need to be in the same city, or even the same country, as my company?

No. Most of the work is done remotely, with online meetings and occasional visits to the plant. Agência Box serves manufacturers in several Brazilian states from Capivari, São Paulo, and has worked on projects in Portugal and the United Kingdom.

How long does it take to see results?

Ads bring the first contacts within weeks. SEO and content take a few months. Evaluate results in orders after 6 to 12 months.
