To sell to manufacturers, you need to be found when the buyer searches, prove technically that you solve the problem and follow a decision that involves several people and takes weeks or months. An industrial sale rarely happens at the first contact. It is won by whoever makes the supplier list, answers fast and keeps the relationship going until the order. This guide is based on our work with manufacturers in Brazil, and it applies both to foreign companies entering the Brazilian market and to Brazilian companies selling to other industries.
Quick summary
- A group buys: engineering, purchasing, quality and leadership. Each one evaluates something different.
- Buyers research on Google, on LinkedIn and with AI tools before talking to a salesperson.
- An organized sales process (CRM, fast replies and follow-up) weighs as much as price.
Who decides the purchase at a manufacturer?
In an industrial purchase, it is almost never one person. The most common roles are:
| Who | What they evaluate | What convinces them |
|---|---|---|
| Engineering or maintenance | Whether the solution meets the specification | Data sheets, standards, tests, samples |
| Purchasing / procurement | Price, lead time, terms, supplier risk | A clear proposal, delivery history, registration in order |
| Quality | Certifications and traceability | ISO, test reports, documented processes |
| Leadership | Total cost and business impact | Similar cases, return on investment |
If your sales material only speaks to one of these audiences, the sale stalls with another.
How do industrial buyers research suppliers today?
Before asking for a quote, the buyer has already done research. They search Google for technical terms, check the company's LinkedIn and, more and more, ask AI tools who makes what they need.
A supplier that does not show up in that research is only remembered through referrals. Referrals are great, but they are unpredictable. For a foreign company that is new to Brazil, this matters even more: without content in Portuguese and a local presence on Google and LinkedIn, Brazilian buyers simply do not find you.
5 steps to sell more to manufacturers
1. Define which industries you sell to best
List the sectors, company sizes and regions of your best clients. Focus on those profiles before trying to talk to everyone.
2. Be where the buyer searches
Google Ads and SEO for people already looking for the solution, LinkedIn to reach decision makers and social media to keep the brand present.
3. Have technical material for each decision maker
Data sheets for engineering, a clear proposal for purchasing, certifications for quality and cases with numbers for leadership.
4. Answer fast and record everything
In Brazilian manufacturing, WhatsApp has the highest success rate for the first contact with a lead (69%), according to the RD Station 2026 Marketing and Sales Panorama (in Portuguese). Record every contact in a CRM so you never lose the follow-up.
5. Follow the proposal until it closes
A proposal sent with no follow-up is the biggest source of lost sales. Set follow-up dates and a reason for each contact: an answered technical question, a similar case, a visit.
Example: from depending on referrals to 60 opportunities a week
A manufacturer of tarpaulin covers served by Agência Box in Brazil sold almost only through referrals. After implementing a sales CRM, paid traffic management, social media and email marketing, it started receiving an average of 60 to 70 new opportunities per week, with active client acquisition.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a sale to a manufacturer take?
It depends on deal size and complexity. Replacement purchases can take days. Projects and equipment usually take from weeks to several months.
Is it better to sell through a sales representative or through digital marketing?
They complement each other. Marketing generates and qualifies opportunities. The representative or technical salesperson leads the negotiation and the relationship.
How do you win the first order from a large manufacturer?
Start with the supplier registration, offer a pilot batch or sample and show cases at similar companies. Large manufacturers usually test before buying in volume.
